European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Dundee University, an organization that operates in the UK higher education sector, is to create 100 new jobs with the expansion of a biomedical research base at the University. The expansion will involve an investment of 6 million GBP, and will focus on cancer research. Professors David Lane and Birgit Lane are to lead Dundee University’s division of molecular medicine when they return from sabbatical leave in 2008, and will operate laboratories as a result of the new investment. Professor David Lane stated:
'This is yet another exciting development for Dundee, and it is great to be coming back here as the medical research base at the University continues to move from strength to strength. This is the ideal place to be if you are doing this kind of research.'
Dundee University expects to generate 10 million GBP of additional research income over the next five years as a result of the jobs. The investment has been made possible by a 2 million GBP grant from the Wolfson Foundation and additional funding from Scottish Enterprise Tayside. Dundee University's vice-principal said that when completed, the Life Sciences complex would host one of the largest single-site research bases in the UK.
Professor Pete Downes stated: 'This further development of life sciences at Dundee gives us one of the most intensive research environments in the UK. We are vigorously pursuing a recruitment programme to add to the range of world-class researchers and staff we have here in Dundee. We have created this major research complex in the space of only a decade, firmly establishing Dundee as an international centre for life sciences.'
