European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
C&C, a manufacturer of cider, has announced that 140 jobs are to be lost at its manufacturing plant in Clonmel. 600 are currently employed at the Clonmel site, and the job losses are due to be implemented from January 2008. The firm has stated that it will begin consulting with its workforce over the job losses before the end of 2007. It has also stated that the costs of the re-organization will amount to 15 million EUR, but that savings of 20 million EUR on labour costs and other costs would also be made. Mr. Maurice Pratt, the Chief Executive Officer of the firm, stated that the restructuring would result in the group's cost base being ‘better aligned with the group's business needs’. He also described the job losses as being ‘regrettable’.
Siptu, an Irish trade union that represents approximately 350 C&C employees at Clonmel, has said that it will seek to ensure that all future job cuts take place through voluntary redundancy.
