Description
JCB, a construction equipment company, is to cut about 400 jobs at its UK factories. The job losses reflect a decline in orders and include 297 shop floor posts and 101 staff posts. There is also the danger of another 336 shop floor employees being made redundant, but the company explained that it hopes for a pick-up in demand in Spring 2009. The GMB union has been briefing its members on the job cuts and does not expect further losses 'at the current level of business'.
