Description
Uiq closed down the unit in Ronneby resulting in the dismissal of 228 employees, out of a total number of 270. Uiq has also given notice to 45 employees in Hungary and 10 in England. The reason for closing down is because Sony Ericsson has stopped using Uiq software in their production of cellular phones. Uiq is owned by Sony Ericsson and Motorola, who along with Nokia and NNT Docombo, will merge Symbian OS, S60, MOAP and Uiq, into a common software platform under the name "Symbian Foundation". The remaining 42 employees will be employed in the new company.
