European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Bosch is a German company manufacturing accessories for motor vehicles such as wipers. The company located in Tienen (Flanders) is about to cut 420 jobs. Bosch is severely concerned by the slowdown of activities in the automobile industry as it is particularly linked to the American market in crisis. Among the 420 jobs losses announced, 350 blue-collar and 70 white-collar are concerned. Since September 2008, 40% of the blue-collar were temporary unemployed. However, those measures were not sufficient to compensate the decrease in demand. The trade unions announced they would try to find alternatives and to limit as much as possible the number of direct dismissals. However, hardly 100 workers would be eligible for early retirement.
