European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Radio France has announced in January 2009 that Radio France International (RFI) will cut 206 jobs between October and December 2009 in the world.
The CEO said that certain areas covered by RFI merit this redeployment, particularly those where vernacular languages like Hausa and Swahili are in use. On the other hand, RFI, through its broadcasts in Arabic, now collaborates much more intensively with France 24 and TV5 Monde.
In July 2009, the Superior Court in Paris dismissed the request of the works council of Radio France Internationale (RFI), demanding the cancellation of the job cut plan. Staff representatives will appeal the decision, while the management plans to pursue the procedure as of early September.
The strike, started by RFI employees on 12 May, was suspended for the summer period. For example, the members of the Serbo-Croat editorial staff at Radio France Internationale (RFI) are protesting against the discontinuation of their daily programmes from 20 July 2009.
