Telecom operator Imagine Communications will create 200 jobs as part of their broadband coverage expansion. The company plans to provide superior broadband access, adding 15 additional towns and rural areas each month to eventually cover 90 percent of the country by 2012. The broadband service is expected to be 7-8 times faster than Eircom service for 50 percent of the price.
Cheif Executive Seán Bolger said, "The quality of the access network is very bad so you are getting poor quality broadband and you are paying a very high price for it. Obviously the situation with Eircom where it has failed to invest in the infrastructure has left us where we are and the lack of effective regulation has prevented investment."
