European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (GGC), Scotland's largest health board, will cut its workforce by 1,252 by 2013. 700 posts will go in 2010/11, with the full number being achieved within 18 months. It has attributed the cuts to an investment programme in its hospitals, which will mean it is able to provide the same standard of care with less staff.
NHS GGC has said the reductions will be through natural wastage, not compulsory redundancies, and are part of its £350m plans "to modernise and redesign our services". The Royal College of Nursing has said that it believes the move will put patient safety at risk, and has condemned it. The health board says it is working with unions over the job losses. No figures were given as to how many staff are currently employed by the board.
