European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
On 23 April 2012, a rail freight carrier PKP Cargo announced plans to create 1,000 new jobs in Poland within the next four years.The company estimates that over this period about 4,000 employees will retire and they will also be replaced. Wojciech Balczun, director of the company, revealed that PKP Cargo is to hire mostly young people to rejuvenate the workforce - a grant programme for the apprentices is to be a part of this strategy.Over the past few years PKP Cargo carried out a large restructuring program resulting in the reduction of about 20,000 jobs. Nowadays the company employs 24,500 people across Poland and plans to increase this number to 25,500 in four years.
Updated, 26-06-2014: PKP Cargo announced plans to employ 130 train drivers in 2014 and 280 ones in 2015. The company will spend PLN 21 mn (EUR 5 mn) on training new train drivers by mid-2015. The sources report that PKP Cargo has started a wide recruiting process in all its units around the country and it cooperates with the Poviat Employment Agencies.
Updated, 03-11-2014: PKP Cargo revealed that it has employed almost 470 train drivers since the beginning of 2014.
