European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
French household equipment retailer Conforama (Group Steinhoff), has announced plans to cut 288 positions before the end of the year. The job cuts will affect its after-sales department. The company wants to close seven of its twelve after-sales centers in France, which employ 605 workers in total.
Conforama will at the same time recruit 70 people at its after-sales department and propose internal mobility within the group for 252 of the redundant workers.
Overall, Conforama employs 9,170 employees. The Central Works Council has gone to court requesting to cancel the social plan arguing that the group has no financial difficulties and only wants to increase its profits.
Updated, 03/10/2012 The court decided on 27 September 2012 to put on hold the social plan. The employer has to start from the beginning the information and consultation process if he wants to maintain the restructuring plan.
Updated, 22/04/2013 According to the announcement, following a decision by the court the restructuring plan is not suspended anymore.
Updated, 28/11/2013 The court took a decision to suspend the plan again. According CFDT it the fourth time that a court stopped the information and consultation process about the plan.
