Description
Rail Cargo Austria (RCA), a subsidiary of the Austrian Federal Railways (ÖBB), is to close down 41 loading stations, thus making 100 employees redundant by the end of 2012.
The restructuring programme is part of an optimisation programme of the company's loading stations. Out of its current 461 stations, 41 will cease to be used by March 2013. The effect of this optimisation is a transfer to cargo transport on the streets.
The majority of employees will be made redundant through direct dismissals. Some ten employees are temporary agency workers, some 20 employees have already left the company and the rest of the employees (70) are to be registered with the early warning system of the Public Employment Service (AMS). Together with the works council, a severance pay model has been developed.
The number of loading stations to be closed is much smaller than originally anticipated; instead of closing down 143 by 2015, the supervisory board decided on 30 October 2012 to only shut down the above mentioned 41 stations.
