Description
Food manufacturer Heinz has announced that it expects to cut 248 positions across its UK and Ireland business. The company, which has recently changed ownership, seeks to streamline its operations through reducing the company’s administrative staff.
Heinz currently employs around 2,600 staff in the UK and Ireland with the job cuts representing almost 10 per cent of its UK and Irish workforce.
According to the announcements, up to 60 jobs are at stake in Ireland where the total workforce was 279 people (217 in the manufacturing activities) at the end of 2012.
The timeline for the restructuring is not yet available and the proposed plan is subject to a consultation process.
The company’s plans have been published following the announcement of 600 job cuts across the food manufacturer’s US and Canadian operations the previous week.
The company, which has headquarters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, currently employs around 32,200 staff worldwide.
Heinz has previously significantly reduced its global workforce in 2011 (see Heinz-WO2011) and in 2006 (see Heinz-WO2006).
