Description
Coca-Cola Iberian Partners, the Coca-Cola bottling company, is planning to dismiss 1,200 employees.
According to media reports, the company plans to close 4 plants in Siero (Asturias), Andalucia (in Malaga or Sevilla), Galicia and Palma de Mallorca.
The company aims at implementing early retirement and voluntary departure schemes. Moreover, it will promote the internal relocations.
Unions have criticised the measure.
UPDATE, 23-01-2014:
Coca-cola announced to finally dismiss 750 employees, while 500 employees will be relocated in other centres. Dismissed workers will be offered a severance pay higher than 20 days per year worked up to a maximum f 12 months. The measure will be discussed with the unions until the 21 February.
UPDATE, 13-06-2014:
The Labour Court has ruled to cancel the collective dismissal plan that the Coca-Cola bottling company, Coca-Cola Iberian Partners, applied in February 2014. According to the Labour Court, information and consultation rights were not respected by the company during the process. Bearing that in mind, it has forced the company to reincorporate the 810 workers dismissed and to pay them the pending wages.
