Description
France-based global telecommunications equipment provider Alcatel Lucent is to cut 586 jobs (out of 1,900) in Italy. The job cuts will mainly affect the site located at Vimercate, in the province of Monza. As reported, the company plans to reduce the labour costs in the R&D divisions and the restructuring is part of a global corporate reorganisation plan.
The trade unions reacted to the company’s decision by organising protest actions and requiring the involvement of the national authorities in order to find alternative solutions to the job cuts. For a previous restructuring event see Alcatel Lucent-IT2012.
