Description
A new collective bargaining agreement between unions and management at HZ Cargo, the Croatian national rail freight company, foresees the redundancy of 804 workers in the first nine months of 2014. The agreement envisages cuts in the company’s wage bill of 25% and includes cancellation of holiday bonuses in 2014. The reductions in labour costs and the dismissal of a significant number of workers were preceded by two months of negotiations. The Croatian Union of Locomotive Engineers, together with the Union of Technical Inspection of wagons and trains were party to the agreement but the Croatian Union of Railwaymen did not sign.
