Description
Train operator Veolia Transport is reducing its workforce by 252 staff (engine drivers and train hosts) at different sites in Sweden. This is to affect every third employee in the company’s Öresundståg operations in Malmö, Helsingborg, Hässleholm, Kalmar, Karlskrona, Halmstad and Kristianstad. 173 of the 252 job cuts are affecting Skåne of which Malmö is the site with most jobs losses (109).
The restructuring is due to the fact that Veolia Transport has concluded three new contracts that require labour adjustments. Some employees will be offered part-time jobs.
The union Seko thinks that Veolia has gained the contract by dumping its prizes which now affects the company's employees. The union is now launching a campaign against Veolia. Negotiations with trade unions are to be entered.
Veolia transport is present in 37 locations in Sweden. The ERM previously reported on a restructuring at Veolia Transport in 2012.
