European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Swedish tool manufacturer, Dormer Tools, is closing its plant in Halmstad, Sweden. All 107 employees at the company and an additional 17 employees at Sandvik Coromant will be affected by the closure. The reason for the closure in Halmstad is that the production is being moved to India and Brazil. CEO Erling Gunnesson says that demand for the products is highest in China, India and South America and that sales are relatively low in the Nordic countries. "This was the best solution to improve profitability", Gunnesson says. Employer-employee negotiations started the day after the announcement and Per Ihlström, representative from the Swedish Metalworkers' Union, says the the discussions will include the timeline for the closure to ensure the best possible solution for each member.
