Description
Tata Steel is to shed around 250 jobs at its Llanwern plant, near Newport, South Wales. Part of the plant will be mothballed; this is the third time in six years that this has happened. The company has taken the decision in response to adverse market conditions. The job losses are understood to affect mainly fixed term contract workers and agency staff, though some are thought to have been Tata employees for a number of years. Unions expressed their regret at Tata's decision, particularly because other local jobs are likely to be affected.
