Description
SSAB Europe has initiated employer-employee negotiations to cut 210 jobs at the steel mill in Raahe, Finland. The internal restructuring is due to SSAB merging with Finish metal manufacturing company Rautaruukki in 2014 and aims to facilitate synergies and increase the efficiency of the operations within the company. SSAB's own employees will assume responsibility for work currently done by an external workforce.
Beyond the steel mill in Raahe, SSAB Europe has production facilities in Hämeenlinna (Finland), Luleå (Sverige) and Borlänge (Sverige).
The recently concluded employer-employee negotiations in Ruukki Construction are linked to the ongoing negotiations in SSAB Europe and regard the same internal restructuring within the SSAB Group as a whole.
Update 14/1/2016:On 15 December, following completed employer-employee negotiations, SSAB announced that 180 jobs will be cut at the steel mill in Raahe. Of these 180, 120 front-line jobs and 60 office jobs will be cut. Cuts will be implemented during the first half of 2016.
