The University of Copenhagan has announced it will reduce administrative and scientific staff by 532. This is due to the Danish liberal government's budget cut in the area of research and education, which means that the University of Copenhagen must reduce spending by DKK 300 million (€40.2 million). In the period from 12 December 2015 to 18 January 2016 the employees had the possibility to ask for voluntary retirement. On 2 February the University Post informed that in all 255 have asked for voluntary retirement. A further 68 vacancies will not be filled. A further 209 employees will be directly dismissed. They were informed at individual meetings in the days from 9 - 11 February. Due to long notice periods the foreseen end date of the redundancies will be around the end of 2016 or beginning of 2017.
