Description
Hofer, Austrian subsidiary of German discount chain ALDI Süd, will operate 11 former Zielpunkt branches creating 180 new jobs.
Last year the indebted Austrian retail chain Zielpunkt declared bankruptcy as previously reported by Eurofound, leaving 2,700 employees without a job. Different companies are now taking over the 226 former Zielpunkt branches. Among those are the supermarket chain SPAR, which acquired 28 branches (Eurofound, 2016-09-06), Denns organic food supermarket and the discounter Lidl.
Similar to SPAR, Hofer has kept some of the former Zielpunkt employees. More than one fifth of former Zielpunkt apprentices have been taken over by Hofer.
