Description
Supermarket chain Tesco has announced plans to restructure its distribution network, which will result in the closure of two distribution centres. The sites which will close are Welham Green in Hertfordshire and the Chesterfield centre in Derbyshire. The production is planned to be relocated to other sites. This will reduce the number of distribution centres from 25 to 23. Tesco has also confirmed that it intends to end its deal with DHL in Daventry and move operations previously handled there to its own site also in Daventry. A total of 1,015 jobs will be lost with this decision; 444 at Welham Green, 207 at Chesterfield and 364 from the head office. Tesco will also create 533 new roles, which will be located across its remaining distribution network. It is understood that the restructure will be complete by June 2017.
