European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
John Lewis, the UK-based retailer has announced the loss of 773 jobs in its department stores and started the formal consultation period with the affected employees. The job cuts will affect staff working in in-store catering and in the administration teams which handle customers’ orders for curtain and carpet fitting services. The management has also announced some opportunities for staff to apply for 386 newly created positions within the company, however, according to news sources, the majority are likely to be made redundant. John Lewis’s announcement follows soon after the supermarket chain Waitrose, which is also a member of the John Lewis Partnership, announced the loss of nearly 700 jobs.
