European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
The University of South Wales has announced plans to cut 139 jobs from its three campuses in Cardiff, Newport and Treforest. The university has stated that the cuts are necessary due to rising costs while its income is predicted to remain static. The university also expects overseas student numbers to be affected in the light of the UK's decision to leave the European Union. It is understood that the university has begun consultation with the trade unions and that there is the possibility that a voluntary redundancy scheme will be opened. At present it is not known which of the university's 3,000 jobs will be affected.
UPDATE 05/06/2017: Following a consultation process, the number of job cuts to be made at the University of South Wales has reduced from 139 to 57. A spokesperson for the University noted that the number had been reduced through a combination of changes to the original proposals and the introduction of a voluntary redundancy scheme. Details have not been provided on the numbers who have chosen to take voluntary redundancy, but it is understood that these are in addition to the 57 redundancies.
