European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Swedish telecom company Ericsson is expanding within 5G-technology, cloud services and Internet of things resulting in the recruitment of 300 engineers. Ericsson recently carried out a large internal restructuring making 2770 employees redundant during the last quarter of 2016. Parallel to the large internal restructuring, Ericsson announced plans to hire up to 1000 new engineers within new areas during the upcoming years. The current recruitment of 300 new engineers within 5G-technology, cloud services and the Internet of things can be seen as a first step in Ericsson's new recruitment drive. Union officials have expressed critique against Ericsson for not providing current employees with supplementary training instead of making employees redundant and hiring new employees later on.
