European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Defence specialist BAE Systems is reported to be cutting 250 jobs from four of its sites in the UK. Sites at Glascoed in Wales, Radway Green near Stoke, Washington and Telford will lose 70, 90, 60 and 30 roles respectively. The company confirmed that statutory consultation with trade unions has started at the affected sites. A spokesperson for the Unite union confirmed that BAE had started a consultation process and that the reason for the redundancies was down to lower volume of orders expected from the Ministry of Defence. BAE has also said that alongside the redundancies it aims to create 130 new positions and there may be possibility for some staff to be relocated to these new positions. The company has not confirmed where the new job opportunities will be created. BAE has already announced job creation in 2017 at sites in Cumbria and in Norfolk.
