Description
Vocational tranining provider Enfap is to close and lay off all its 500 workers in Sicily. The affected workers are administrative staff and trainers.
The institute has resorted to the short-time working scheme over the last years due to a reduction of activities. The decision to close the business followed the withdrawal of the authorisation to provide training by the regional government of Sicily (department of education and training). This occurred in the context of inspections into the whole system of vocational training in the island.
Update, 04/03/2017: Following a legal dispute between the regional government and Enfap, the withdrawal of the authorisation for the training provision was initially cancelled by the court. As a result, Enfap hired back a share of the redundant workers. Yet, the regional government initiated a new process to enact the withdrawal decision and all workers were eventually dismissed.
