On 3 November 2017, the British airline EasyJet announced that it will take over 1,003 Air Berlin employees between January 2018 and September 2018 as part of the take-over of 25 Air Berlin aircrafts. EasyJet and the United Services Union (Ver.di) agreed to following terms: EasyJet will offer affected employees German employment contracts based on rates negotiated by Ver.di. Furthermore, employees will receive a transitional allowance between €800 and €40,000 depending on their qualifications and the time they have to wait before starting work at EasyJet. Lastly, both EasyJet and Ver.di agreed on terms regarding a relocation of crews from Hamburg and Schönefeld to Tegel. Details have not been published.
It is expected that the competition authorities will agree to the take-over in December.
