European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Cleveland Potash Limited has announced plans to cut 230 jobs at its site in Boulby, near Redcar. The company will cease mining potash and instead begin producing the alternative polyhalite fertiliser. The company has informed staff of the intended changes and has opened consultation with the trade unions.
Although the firm has suggested that the changes mean that the business has a long-term future, local politicians and unions expressed concern at the scale of the job losses. Potash mining will end in the summer of 2018, and the job losses will take effect from that point.
As of January 2018, around 700 staff work at the site in Boulby.
