Description
VDL Nedcar, a Dutch automotive manufacturing company, has announced plans to cut 500 jobs at its site in Born following the reduction of orders by its client BMW. Out of these 500 employees, approximately 200 are temporary agency workers and 300 are going to retire without being replaced. In addition, 500 temporary employees, who were hired to cope with the peak of production in 2018, will be made redundant.
A spokesperson for the community of Sittard-Geleen stated that, together with the company and the Employee Insurance Agency, they are going to support the redundant workers in order to find a new job. Previous restructuring in VDL Nedcar, which resulted in the creation of 3,000 jobs, took place in 2017.
