Description
The Czech police department plans to increase the number of service posts by 3,000 within the next three years, as proposed by the Interior Ministry and approved by the government. The first 500 vacancies should be filled in by the end of 2020. Territorial police directorates will gain the biggest share of the new position or around 1,754 of them. Around 830 of the new regional police officers will work in the patrolling system so that the police can guarantee professional public service throughout the Czech Republic within ten minutes after an incident report. A further 300 posts will be placed at regional directorates to combat illegal migration.
The proposal also includes 750 positions that will be created in the high rang police departments.
In summary, the plan envisions 1,000 additional posts each year in the period 2021-2022, while the remaining 500 posts should be created in 2023.
The Czech police force requires around 43,000 posts in total. However, currently, the public body employs around 40,000 police officers. The public police departments have been facing a shortage of workforce for a long while. About 2,800 positions were vacant in 2019.
